This is a living document, meant to be added to, edited, and refined as our company and team grows. In it you'll find our thoughts on how we treat one another, how we are building our company, and the details of how we work.
Culture at Bucketlist Xperiences (BX) is comprised of what we value, how we work, and how we act. Culture is critically important. A common misunderstanding is culture is created, rather, it’s a reflection on the team and how we operate. Our culture defines our success (or failure) as business.
At BX, we deeply value autonomy and freedom, recognizing them as essential for optimal performance and satisfaction. We trust each other. Our team trusts each other to get work done and in exchange for that trust, a high degree of autonomy & freedom is granted.
We are an all remote company. Our all remote structure is both dependent on and creates autonomy. In order to operate effectively as an all-remote team we emphasize activities such as self-learning, decision making, and async communication. In turn these allow for a high degree of flexibility such a non-linear work days and cost savings.
Team members should first search for their own answers and, if an answer is not readily found or the answer is not clear, ask in the appropriate forum. Write down any new information discovered and pay it forward so that those coming after will have better efficiency built on top of practicing collaboration, inclusion, and documenting the results.
Team members have more room to grow themselves when they are able to self-service and self-learn.
This means that we trust one another to use discretion and make decisions with good judgement in order to move projects and the business forward.
When and if someone makes a mistake, we respond by learning from the situation and supporting them through it so that they are supported – not reprimanded. We avoid implementing policies and red-tape as a reaction to one thing going wrong one time.
We want each team member to be a manager of one who doesn’t need daily check-ins to achieve their goals. Team members are given the freedom to own projects and initiatives and are trusted to see them through to a successful end.
When team members are managers of one they can have an increased work/life balance, because they are more empowered to make decisions around how they allocate their time throughout each day.
Every dollar we spend will have to be earned back. Be as frugal with company money as you are with your own. In saying this, we ask team members to weigh the cost of purchases against the value that they will bring to the company.
Our policy for travel, entertainment, gifts and other expenses is five words long: “Act in BX’s best interest.”
